The cottage needed ample privacy from the nearby road and the residences of fishermen in the vicinity. Its design not only shields the structure from its surroundings but also strategically directs attention as needed. The dilemma hinges on whether "form follows function" or "function follows form." When the design is guided by the site, both aspects harmonize seamlessly.
Perched on the untouched shores of Pappali beach -Trissur district, Kerala, this holiday cottage-stay takes a sublime stance in its verdant neighborhood. Starkly contemporary in its form yet seamlessly grounded in its coastal context, this family getaway is built on an 8.5-cent plot of land overlooking the theatrical Arabian sea. Embracing the tranquility of its surroundings, the building offers a private portal into the vast seascape while providing a luxurious experience for guests.
Inconspicuous metal fencing around the property maintains its continuity with the surrounding landscape and calls for the appreciation of the structure as one whole. One is guided into the home through a wedged entry that opens to the expanse of the sea through the living space. The deck is an extension of the living space and is positioned along the line of entry, framing the beach. And it floats over a lotus pond which adds to the serenity of the space. An efficient kitchen and a convertible seater placed on either side of this living space are well tucked away from the line of vision. A private bedroom, extended balcony overlooking the beach and an attached toilet occupy the floor above and is accessed through a spiral staircase.
The harmonious connection with the landscape, luxurious tranquility, seamless services, and stunning vistas aim to provide the inhabitants of this getaway an oasis of serenity with coastal allure.
